Machias splits two with East Grand

HARRINGTON – Stephanie Whitman singled, stole second, then scored the winning run on an error as Machias defeated East Grand 15-14 in nine innings in the first game of a softball doubleheader Friday.

East Grand of Danforth won the second game 9-6 for its first victory of the season.

In the first game, Whitman singled three times and doubled twice. Christi Holmes singled three times, doubled, and hit a home run as well as scoring the tying run for the Bulldogs.

Elisha Dodge singled five times to drive in three runs for the Vikings. Sarah Rodier had four singles with an RBI, while Ryanne Flannery had three singles and an RBI.

In the second game, Allie McKay led East Grand with two singles, a double, and two RBIs. Rodier added two singles, a double, and an RBI.

Holmes singled three times to bring in two runs for Machias. Whitney Baker had two singles and an RBI.

Ashland, Van Buren post wins

At Mars Hill, Krystal Deshaine hit three singles and drove in two runs to help Van Buren to the 19-11 win over Central Aroostook in the second game. Ashland defeated Central Aroostook 22-6 in the first game.

In the first game, Ashley Nemer had three singles and an RBI for Ashland. Whitney Flint singled twice to drive in two runs and Ashlee Peters added an RBI single.

Andi Long doubled for Central Aroostook.

In the second game, Megan Lajoie singled three times for Van Buren. Katie Beckwith had two singles and two RBIs and Lilly Morrow added two singles and an RBI.

Long hit a grand slam in the fourth inning and a single for Central Aroostook and Jessica Grew added a two-run triple in the fifth inning.

Kayla Daigle ripped a second-inning double for the Pioneers of St. Agatha.

At Searsport, Hollie Stanwood scored the winning run in the sixth inning on a Nichole Leach two-out single to give Sumner of East Sullivan the win.

Liz Smythe doubled and singled to knock in two runs for Searsport. Sheila Wilbur had a double and a single with an RBI and Meghan Brassbridge doubled and singled.

At Mars Hill, Andy Martin hit an RBI double in the top of the seventh inning to lead Van Buren to a 4-2 win over Central Aroostook in the second game. Ashland beat Central Aroostook 7-3 in the opener.

In the first game, Trevor Tompkins doubled and singled to drive in three runs for Ashland. Jeremy Baker had a double and two singles with two RBIs and Nick Gimbel singled twice.

Andrew York singled three times to drive in two runs for Central Aroostook. R.J. Richardson and James Richards both had three singles.

In the second game, Martin doubled and singled to knock in two runs for Van Buren and Justin Cyr had a double and a single with an RBI.

Richardson doubled and singled and scored a run for Central Aroostook.

At Milo, Dan Beatham hit a two-run homer, double, and two singles to drive in four runs and lead Dexter to a 13-2 win over Penquis in the first game. Stearns of Millinocket defeated the Patriots 12-1 in the second game.

In the first game, Tim McCarthy, Chris Rabideau, and Eric Day combined to allow just one run on four hits while striking out 12 for the Tigers. Day doubled, singled, and knocked in a run.

Zac Beals and Ryan Andrews each hit an RBI double for Penquis.

In the second game, Justin Pelkey had a double and two singles with three RBIs for the Minutemen. Ryan Beaulieu doubled and singled with two RBIs, and Steve Cyr added two singles and two RBIs.

Andrews tripled for Penquis.

Josh Gallant topped the Lions with an RBI double.
