News in brief BANGOR: NEW BUILDING NAMED IN HONOR OF LOCAL BUSINESS LEADER

The Affiliated Healthcare Systems board of directors will break ground at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 13, for a three-story, 28,800-square-foot office and operations building on Union Street. The $3 million building will be named the Douglas H. Brown Building in recognition of local Bangor businessman Douglas Brown. The new building, which will house AHS’ corporate and operations offices, as well as Meridian Mobile Health-Capital Ambulance, will be built on 7 acres leased from the city. The land, located near the EMHS Healthcare Mall on Union Street, was the site of the former Harold S. Slager Memorial U.S. Army Reserve Center. Brown, retired owner of the Shop ‘n Save supermarket chain, is being recognized for his 30 years’ service on the board of directors for Eastern Maine Medical Center, Eastern Maine Healthcare and Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems, as well as being a founding member of AHS, the for-profit health care support services arm of EMHS.
