BANGOR – An Exeter woman facing embezzlement charges in Hancock County was indicted Monday by the Penobscot County grand jury for allegedly stealing more than $100,000 from a Bangor restaurant owner four years ago.
Cecilia White, 40, was indicted for theft of $107,000 during 2001 from the owner of Asian Palace where she worked as a bookkeeper.
She is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, June 22, in Penobscot County Superior Court.
White was ordered in 2002 to repay Marilyn Lau after the restaurant owner won a lawsuit against the former bookkeeper in Penobscot County Superior Court. So far, White has not repaid the money, Michael Roberts, deputy district attorney for Penobscot County, said Monday.
If convicted of the new theft charges in Penobscot County, White faces up to 10 years in prison, a fine of up to $20,000 and an order to pay restitution.
Earlier this year, White pleaded not guilty to theft charges in Hancock County Superior Court for allegedly stealing more than $300,000 from a Surry forester when she worked as his bookkeeper from July 2002 to June 2004.
She also has pleaded not guilty in Penobscot County Superior Court to bouncing checks from the personal account into which she deposited funds allegedly embezzled from the forester.
In an unrelated case, a Brewer man who in April reportedly struck a 14-year-old Ellsworth boy riding his bicycle in Bangor was indicted Friday by the Penobscot County grand jury for drunken driving.
Howard V. Williams, 40, was indicted for criminal operating while under the influence of intoxicants and violation of condition of release.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday, June 22, in Penobscot County Superior Court. If convicted, Williams faces up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
He allegedly hit the boy as he was turning left onto Union Street from Fourth Street, but told police he didn’t see the biker until it was too late. Williams’ blood alcohol level was .19 according to prosecutors, which is more than twice the legal limit of .08.
The boy suffered a fractured skull and a broken collarbone, but is recovering from his injuries, Roberts said Monday.
