The Sacramento Monarchs activated point guard Ticha Penicheiro Thursday and waived forward Maren Walseth, thus securing a spot for guard and former University of Maine star Cindy Blodgett.

Penicheiro had been on the injured list since she returned last month from Poland, where she plays in the winter. The Monarchs had the league-limit 11 active players on the roster and it was thought Blodgett was one of the players who could be cut to make room for Penicheiro’s return.
