Bangor Comrades nip Penquis

BANGOR – Kyle Gallant stroked an RBI double in the fifth inning and Brian Hackett hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth to lead the Bangor Comrades to a 2-1 Zone 1 American Legion baseball victory over Penquis at Husson College’s Winkin Complex.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Josh Young and Anthony DeRosa combined on a three-hitter for Bangor.

Logan Forrest had two singles and an RBI for Penquis.

Presque Isle 7, Orono 6

A Presque Isle, Chad Lavway surrendered five runs on two hits in the top of the first, but settled down after that, allowing no hits with 11 strikeouts the rest of the way as the Patriots knocked off the Twins.

Lavway added a pair of singles at the plate while Hunter Caron had a pair of RBI doubles for Presque Isle. Chris Parsons had a double and a single.

George Keefe roped a two-run double for the Twins and Brian Roach singled.

Brewer 8, Waldo 2

At Belfast, Jeff Miller slammed a two-run homer to spark a three-run fifth inning for the Falcons and Kevin McAvoy crushed a three-run double to key a five-run sixth as Brewer rolled.

Matt Grimes added two singles and a double for Brewer.

Ryan Shute had an RBI infield single while Mike Adams singled and hit a sacrifice fly for Waldo. Matt Nickerson hit two singles.

Calais 8, Lincoln 0

At Calais, Steve Colbath singled twice and combined with two other pitchers on a two-hitter as Calais prevailed.

Josh Francis, Aaron Sullivan and James Ramsdell hit two singles apiece for the winners.

Blaine Clark and Gerry Worster singled for Lincoln.
