Deane races to Speedway win

HERMON – After race leader Dale Swoboda of Hermon crashed on lap nine for the only caution in the race, Winterport’s Ryan Deane led the rest of the way to win the Sportsman Pro Stock feature at Speedway 95 Saturday night.

Mike Thomas of Etna and Jason Thayer of Hermon traded time in the second spot before Thomas surged ahead and Thayer finished third. Corrina’s Paul White was fourth and Erik Worster of Lee rounded out the top five.

Winterport Dragway

Mac Beckwith of Levant edged out Carleton Tidd of Hodgdon to win the Super Pro Eliminator Final on Sunday. Orono’s Chuck Maguire was the semifinalist.

Busch North Series

At Holland, N.Y., Mike Stefanik of Coventry, R.I. won his first race since 1998 in the Fuccillo Auto Park HUGE 150 at Holland International Speedway. Stefanik won the pole and led every lap en route to victory.

Three-time defending series champion Andy Santerre of Cherryfield finished second for the second week in a row. Last week’s winner Matt Kobyluck of Uncasville, Conn., finished third, Hudson, N.H.’s Dave Dion was fourth, and Joey McCarthy of Randolph, N.J. finished fifth.

Scarborough’s Ryan Moore started and finished ninth.

Santerre sits second in Busch North Series standings, just 10 points behind Kobyluck.

Unity Raceway

At Unity, Saturday night’s action in the Sun Auto Sales Mini-Truck Triple Crown series race was just as hot as the track temperatures. Darren Doucette of Sidney won his fourth feature race and second Triple Crown victory of the season.

Doucette outgunned leader Eric Carnegie of North Vassalboro on a lap 13 restart and weaved his way through traffic to lap the field and wasn’t challenged again until the end, when Russ Booker of North Anson broke through the finish line first. After Booker was disqualified for unapproved tires, Doucette got the win with Carnegie second, Chad Elkins of Waterville third, Seth Wills of Rome fourth, and Josh Johnson of Dixmont fifth.

Wiscasset Raceway

At Wiscasset, the second doubleheader racing bill of the season was accompanied by sun and heat, but Windham’s Chris Seavey managed to keep his cool.

Less than a year after crashing into a tire barrier and the retaining wall and suffering head and neck injuries, Seavey drove to his first 25-lap Legend victory at the track.

Steve Fox of Falmouth was second, Herve Thibodeau Jr. of Saco third, Josh Leach of Islesboro fourth and Ed Getty of Gray was fifth.

Beech Ridge Speedway

At Scarborough, Steve Carrier of Saco outraced Trevor Sanborn of East Parsonsfield to take the checkered flag in the NASCAR Pro Series feature race at Beech Ridge -Speedway Saturday.

Brockie Gerry of Fryeburg finished third with Bobby Babb of Windham fourth and Harold Bilodeau of Standish fifth in the race.
