2 juveniles arrested after Brewer chase

Two juveniles were arrested Tuesday evening after Brewer police received a tip that one of the youths, who was wanted on a probation violation, may have been at a downtown residence.

The 16-year-old male from the Greenville area was seen entering a Center Street apartment. When officers arrived, the teen ran out on the fire escape, leading the three officers on a foot chase, according to Sgt. Jason Moffitt.

The juvenile, whom police and a probation officer had been seeking for a few days, led the officers through “several” alleys, Moffitt said.

Officer Nelson Feero, who happened to be driving by while the chase was unfolding, managed to stop his vehicle near Betton Street in a position that halted the suspect, who was running.

As the boy was resisting arrest, a 15-year-old Brewer girl, who was a friend of his, attacked two of the officers, punching Feero in the face and scratching Moffitt, police said.

Neither officer was seriously injured, Moffitt said.

Both teenagers were taken into custody on juvenile holds. The boy was charged with resisting arrest and the girl was charged with two counts of assault.

A small fire erupted in the roof of the Georgia-Pacific mill in Old Town Tuesday afternoon.

A spokeswoman from the G-P press office said that this type of fire, which burned the wood in the stacks, is something that has happened before. She also said that production wasn’t at all affected by the flames.

The Old Town Fire Department responded to the call and the fire was extinguished in less than a half-hour.

A vehicle accident on the Coldbrook Road in Hermon Tuesday evening resulted in a Winterport woman being transported to the hospital.

Karla Dok, 36, of Etna was looking out the window of her Chevy S-10 pickup at the cars for sale in the lot of Economy Motors when she rear-ended a Dodge Dakota driven by Karen Osborne, 63, according to a Penobscot County sheriff’s deputy. Osborne was taken to the hospital because she had high blood pressure and was shaken up by the incident, Deputy Larry Estes said.

No other injuries were reported in the accident, which occurred just after 6:30 p.m. Both vehicles were damaged, Estes said.

Passengers in each vehicle told officials that seat belts were worn.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Hermon emergency medical technicians and the Hermon Fire Department.

Correction: A From Police Files item published in Wednesday’s State section concerning an accident in Hermon contained inaccuracies. Karla Doak, 35, of Etna was alone in her vehicle when it rear-ended one driven by Karen Osborne, 63, of Winterport. Osborne was looking out the window at cars for sale at Economy Motors when the accident occurred.
