Extreme teens find way back home through wilds

What ever happened to saying “please” and “thank you,” respecting your elders, sharing your toys, and keeping your hands to yourself?

We’ve all seen and heard about it – children throwing tantrums in a store because they don’t get the snack they want, teens who have taken the wrong path and can’t seem to find their way back – and now the dilemma of what to do with these troubled youngsters has hit the air and has America watching.

The latest, “Brat Camp,” shows the struggles of out-of-control teens and desperate parents who try to get back the children they know and love. To do so, they send their children to the Oregon wilderness for nearly two months.

The two-hour premiere of “Brat Camp” is set to air at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, on ABC.

The show spotlights nine families who ship their teenagers to Sage Walk, a wilderness school where they face their problems and behaviors by roughing it. The teens all have issues – alcohol, drug abuse, behavior problems, or a combination of the three – that they attempt to overcome throughout the season.

Parents who hope to avoid sending their children to “Brat Camp” may turn to ABC’s newest superhero, “Super Nanny,” or make a call to “Nanny 911” on Fox.

Similar in content and both with Mary Poppins-like British roots, the two shows attempt to help parents learn how to tame their toddlers, have patience with their pre-teens, and keep some sort of sanity in their lives.

The next episode of “Super Nanny” can be seen at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, on ABC. “Nanny 911” airs at 8 p.m. Mondays on Fox.

An adult spin-off of the Fox hit is on the way. The casting office for the future “Marriage 911” now is taking applications from married couples who “are tired of fighting over everything” and can’t remember why they got married in the first place. Applications can be downloaded from the Internet on the Fox Web site.
