Glenburn man arrested at home, charged with leaving scene of an accident, OUI

A Glenburn man was arrested Saturday morning and charged with leaving the scene of an accident and operating under the influence of intoxicants, Bangor police said.

Lance Lewey, 23, was driving on Broadway when he approached and hit a car that reportedly was stopped in the middle of the road, a police report said.

Police were dispatched to the hit-and-run accident just before 2:30 a.m. One of the occupants of the struck vehicle, a Mitsubishi Montero, was taken to the hospital.

The other vehicle was reported to be a Mazda 626.

Police said they eventually found Lewey at his Glenburn residence.

As the man “stumbled” to the door, he held his hands up in a submissive posture and said, “I’m the one, I’m the one you want,” according to police. Officer Chad Foley told the man he just wanted to speak with him about what had happened that morning.

Foley noted a strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech and unsteadiness.

When asked why he left the scene of the accident, Lewey responded that he was scared because he didn’t have insurance and his registration was suspended. Foley then asked Lewey if he had anything to drink after the accident.

According to the report, Lewey smiled and said, “Oh yeah, I had two Buds.” Lewey said he had split a pitcher of beer and had two or three 12-ounce beers before the accident.

Lewey was placed under arrest on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident. A breathalyzer test later indicated his blood alcohol content was 0.20 percent.

A citation also was issued for his having no insurance.

Bangor police arrested a Bucksport man in the upper parking lot near Club Gemini on Harlow Street early Saturday morning.

Justine Wingate, 23, approached another male just after midnight, yelling at him and attempting to fight the “much smaller” man, a police report indicated. The officer stepped in front of Wingate, recommending that he leave. Wingate continued to yell. Walking closer, the officer again told Wingate to leave.

The man told the officer to shut up and used profanity, police said.

The officer warned Wingate that he would be arrested if he didn’t leave the parking lot, but he again swore at the officer and pushed him in the chest, police said.

Wingate was arrested on a charge of disorderly conduct and taken to Penobscot County Jail.

Several Bangor police units were sent to Club Gemini on Sunday morning in response to reports of a fight.

When officers arrived on scene just after 1 a.m., they noticed a woman, later identified as Michelle Letourneau, 36, of Liberty, yelling at a man who was trying to leave the scene, a police report said.

Several witnesses said the woman was out of control and trying to assault the man.

The man said he didn’t know Letourneau but did push her to the ground after she repeatedly charged him.

When her friends tried to hold her back, Letourneau broke loose, approaching police and pointing at the man. Officer Thomas Reagan turned her to prevent her from hitting the man.

The woman then punched Officer Reagan in his left eye, and he took her to the ground with an arm bar, police said.

Letourneau was taken to Penobscot County Jail and charged with assaulting a police officer.
