Bangor, Hampden in split Teams jockeying for playoff spots

BANGOR – Scott Hackett smacked a three-run triple in the first inning Friday as Bangor earned a 7-4 win over Hampden in the first game of their American Legion Zone 1 baseball doubleheader at Husson College.

Hampden rebounded in the second game, scoring at least one run in each of the first six innings to earn a 14-6 victory and keep their postseason hopes alive.

In the first game, Bangor’s Brian Hackett added two singles and an RBI in support of righthander Josh Young, who pitched a six-hitter.

Brian McGinley led Hampden with a double and two RBIs, while Ian Lee hit a single with two RBIs.

In the second game, Dan MacLean had a double and three singles for the Riverdogs, while Brett Danforth hit a triple and a single. Nate Ellis added with two singles to the team’s 13-hit attack.

Evan Farley and Chris Morris combined to pitch a five-hitter for Hampden

Young and Anthony DeRosa each singled for Bangor.

The regular season for Zone 1 winds down over the next four days with teams player doubleheaders on Saturday with games also scheduled on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Bangor hosts Trenton in a Saturday doubleheader at 5 p.m. while Penquis visits Hampden for a 1 p.m. twinbill.

Bangor also plays Orono in a nine-inning game Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in Old Town.

The Zone 1 tourney will be held July 22-25.
