SOUTHWEST HARBOR – The weather was nearly optimal for the ninth annual Hospice Regatta of Maine and that showed in the turnout as 10 boats participated Friday and 30 on Saturday.

On Saturday, skipper Sturgis Haskins sailed Ondine to Luder Class victory with Sam Shaw’s Mary Jane second. Third place was a tie between Rowan Fraley’s Weetamoe and Tom Rolfes’ Paladin. In the junior regatta, Nate McMullin and Graham Glass won the 420 race with Cody Spruce and Axl Wallingford second, and Joe LaChance and Ben Steel in third.

On Saturday, Henry Brauer and Bob Johnstone sailed Tern to the cruising class/spinnaker victory with John Forsgren’s Spring Tide second and Bill Wilkinson’s Grey Eagle third. Gordon Haaland was first on Eventyr in the non-spinnaker class with Michael Cook’s Flirt second and David Holmes’ Free Spirit third.

In the one design class race, Stephen Homer sailed Puff to victory with Scott Redmon’s Firefly as runner-up and John Henry’s Gambler third.
