Arcady Music Society will present Romantic Piano Favorites featuring piano virtuoso Jinho Kim of Korea. Kim will perform works by Schubert, Mozart, Liszt and Chopin, as well as Beethoven’s timeless “Moonlight Sonata.”

Jinho Kim will perform at:

. 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 25, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 120 Park St., Bangor.

. 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at the Alamo Theatre, Bucksport.

At age 13, Jinho Kim made his debut in his native city of Seoul, Korea, with the National Symphony Orchestra. As a result, the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra immediately engaged him to perform with the eminent Austrian maestro Kurt Woss the year after.

Kim went on to study with Daniel Pollack in 1974 for two years in Los Angeles, and then with legendary pedagogue Madame Rosina Lhevinne. He moved to New York to study with Nadia Reisenberg at the Juilliard School.

At Juilliard, where he received bachelor’s and master’s degrees, Kim worked with Nadia Reisenberg and Oxana Yablonskaya, who instilled in him the grand, Russian tradition of pianism as well as more modern discipline. After graduation, Kim performed in the U.S. and in 1984 was chosen to give the inaugural recital for the Chopin Society of Minneapolis, followed by additional appearances in various music festivals.

Kim has performed with most of the orchestras in Korea as well the Moscow State Symphony, Kharkov Philharmonic, Singapore Symphony, Hungarian Virtuosi and London’s Philharmonia Orchestra with which he recorded Saint-Saens’ “Carnival of the Animals.”

Arcady also will showcase the talented young musicians of Maine and will feature Rachel Townsend of Jefferson, a winner from this year’s Arcady Youth Competition, performing at the beginning of the Bangor and Bucksport concerts.
