Big East Top Gun contest

BREWER – The Big East Conference will sponsor the third annual Big East Top Gun competition at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at Brewer Middle School.

Admission is $1. The cheering athletes will compete in four categories and display the skills they have developed. For information, contact Kristie Reed at 848-3410.

Heart association golf classic

BANGOR – Hannaford Brothers invites area businesses to be part of its first annual Golf Classic to benefit the American Heart Association.

The four-person scramble begins 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Jato Highland Golf Course in Lincoln. The tournament is limited to the first 30 teams to register. Entry fee is $50 per person and covers greens fees, golf cart, prizes and food. Registration is requested by Saturday, July 23.

Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 3 killers of Mainers. The funds generated from the Golf Classic will be used to support ongoing research, education and community initiatives that will save lives.
