History of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church

1604 – First Mass celebrated on St. Croix Island.

1608 – Jesuit priests arrive to minister to Passamaquoddy Indians.

1858 – Catholics hold services after old hall purchased for $300.

1864 – Immaculate Conception parish established.

1885 – Sisters of Mercy open a school.

1893 – Church and rectory built on Calais Avenue for $18,000.

1987 – New church, parish hall and rectory completed across the street from old one.

1999 – Free-standing 50-foot bell tower and bell from original church installed.

2005 – Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, parish hall and rectory destroyed in fire.
