Bangor man charged with OUI and operating after suspension

A Bangor man squealed the tires of his orange Mustang late Sunday night when employees at Leadbetters Mini Shop wouldn’t sell him alcohol because of his intoxicated state.

Bangor police later charged Raymond Gallegos, 44, with operating after suspension and operating under the influence of intoxicants.

When Officer Steve Pelletier found Gallegos at his apartment just after 11 p.m., Gallegos appeared intoxicated, according to the police report.

During questioning, Gallegos asked Officer Pelletier if he wanted him to lie or tell the truth. After Pelletier confirmed he wanted the truth, Gallegos informed him that he “was drunk now as he was then,” and that he “went to the store and the guy would not sell him beer so he left.”

Gallegos also told Pelletier that he “has not had anything to drink since he got home.” However, he showed Pelletier the beer in his fridge. According to the report, he also wasn’t sure why he had gone to the store except to get more beer.

Finally, Gallegos told Pelletier, “Give me a DUI if you want to give me a DUI.”

Once outside, Pelletier administered a series of sobriety tests, all of which Gallegos stated he was unable to do.

Pelletier took the man to the police department to give him a Breathalyzer test, which Gallegos initially refused. The test revealed a blood-alcohol content of 0.25 percent.
