York tops Portland North 8-1 All-Stars capture state championship in ages 9-10 division

ROCKLAND – York’s Adam Bailey pitched a four-hitter, striking out 10 batters while only walking two, to lead York by Portland North 8-1 to win the state title for ages 9-10 in the Little League All-Star baseball tourney Saturday.

Catcher Alex Mercurio started the game’s hitting with a towering two-run homer in the second inning.

Thomas Kinton singled twice for York.

Falmouth 11, Hermon 0

At Old Town High School Sunday, Leigh Wyman pitched a one-hitter and Sarah Sparks ended the game via mercy rule in the fourth with a two-run home run to keep Falmouth unbeaten in the state championship tournament.

Bri DiPhillipo, Jade Bazinet, and Maddie Inlow each had two singles and an RBI for Falmouth.

Kayla Snow’s second inning single was Hermon’s only hit.

Auburn 14, Calais 4

At Old Town High School Sunday, Ashley Arnold threw a five-hitter and led the offense with a double, single, and three RBIs for Auburn.

Lexi Clavette added two singles for Auburn.

Sarah Smith singled twice and Paige Gillespie added a double for Calais, which was eliminated.

Sanford 9, Waldoboro 2

At Old Town High School Sunday, Desiree Benner allowed three hits to help Sanford eliminate Waldoboro.

Danielle Collinson led Sanford with a three-run triple in the fourth.

Taylor Simmons had a triple and a single for Waldoboro. Charlene Wilbur had two singles and an RBI.

At Old Town High School Saturday, Beth DeCoste pitched a two-hitter and backed herself and Hermon with two singles and an RBI.

Abby Burgess added a double, single, and two RBIs for Hermon. Brittany Turner singled twice.

Singles by Kate Sawyer and Kennedy Hubbard were Auburn’s only hits.

Sarah Sparks had two doubles and an RBI while Mary Kowalski had a double, a single and an RBI for Falmouth.

Taylor Littlefield hit a two-run triple for Sanford.
