Bangor Savings Bank is investigating the improper handling of bank and customer funds at its branch in Bucksport.
Yellow Light Breen, a senior vice president with the bank, said there were inappropriate activities to divert funds from the bank and its customers. He said the bank was referring the results of the investigation to the appropriate federal agencies and that it was working closely to assist the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the matter.
Breen also said the branch manager is no longer with the bank.
According to Breen, only a handful of customers were affected. “The total fraud appears to involve several hundred thousand dollars,” Breen said. Some of the money involved was bank money, Breen said.
“In all cases, the bank is making our customers whole, fully restoring any misappropriated funds,” Breen said. “All of us at Bangor Savings Bank value our integrity and our reputation above all else, and we are regretful and disappointed” that the events in Bucksport might reflect poorly on the bank.
