Man assaults girlfriend, former wife, police say

Sunday was not a lucky day for a Brewer man. After he drove his truck into a ditch at the intersection of Hogan Road and Mount Hope Avenue in Bangor, police arrested him on two counts of domestic assault.

Daniel Frye, 28, of Brewer was driving his Ford Ranger pickup at 10:58 p.m. Sunday with his girlfriend and ex-wife in the cab when a dispute broke out in the vehicle, police reports said.

Frye grew upset when he thought the women were whispering back and forth to each other about him, police reports said. He then slammed the brakes three times, causing the two women to hit the dashboard of the vehicle.

When his ex-wife said she was going to call the police if he continued, he allegedly punched her on the side of the face while attempting to grab the phone from her. Frye then stopped the vehicle and the three got out. He grabbed his girlfriend by the arm, left a noticeable scratch on her face, and began punching himself, police reports said.

Frye then returned to his vehicle alone, continued down the road a short distance and crashed his truck into the ditch, the reports said.

The two women went to the local Denny’s restaurant by taxicab. Police located them there and took them to the Bangor Police Department to fill out reports.

Frye’s vehicle was towed, and he was taken to Penobscot County Jail for the assaults, the police reports said.

A Bangor man used a counterfeit $20 bill to pay for purchases at Young’s Market on Ohio Street on Monday afternoon, police said.

Peter Gallant, 20, of Bangor presented the bill to the cashier, who noticed the money looked suspicious. The cashier used a special marker to test the bill and confirmed it was most likely counterfeit, police reports said.

Gallant said he didn’t know the bill was fake and said he had received it a few days earlier from a friend, who had asked him to break a $50 bill, according to police reports.

No charges were filed, but the bill was logged in as evidence at the Bangor Police Department, police reports said.
