FOLK/Kids Greg Boardman & Sons, Maine family of fiddlers

Saturday: 4 p.m. Children’s Area; Sunday: 2 p.m. Children’s Area

Greg Boardman has practiced his unique brand of fiddling throughout Maine and beyond for more than three decades. His love of Maine fiddling brought him early to the feet of local old-time masters such as Otto Soper and Simon St. Pierre. He has performed and recorded with many of Maine’s top groups, including Northern Valley Boys, Old Grey Goose, the Ben Guillemette Ensemble and Timbrel. He currently performs with a family band, Greg Boardman & Sons. He has also released two acclaimed solo CDs, “Century Reel” and “Divine Waltz.” As a promoter of fiddle music Boardman co-founded, with the late Shirley Littlefield, the East Benton Fiddlers’ Convention, the longest-running fiddle contest in Maine, and Maine Fiddle Camp.

Isaac Boardman has played guitar since middle school in Auburn, performing with various rock bands through high school, as well as accompanying his father at fiddle contests. He is a recent graduate from Maine’s Rockport College, now pursuing a career in the film industry.

Ethan Boardman learned to play drums jamming at a friend’s house during fifth grade and has played with bands right up through his recent graduation from Edward Little High School in Auburn, Maine. He has played for worship teams at church, theater groups, contra dances, weddings and concerts, and can be heard at rock shows with The Invention.

Aidan Boardman studied violin and piano before taking up bass, along with guitar and ukulele. He is an award-winning thespian, and writes and performs with the acoustic duo Wandering Optimist.
