Army Commendation Medal

LAWTON, Okla. – Army Spec. Timothy Ashlock of Holden has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal for honorably and faithfully serving in the Army for four years. The medal is awarded to individuals who, while serving in any capacity with the Army, have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism, meritorious achievement or meritorious service.

Ashlock, a Bangor High School graduate, is a multiple rocket system operations and fire direction specialist assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 4th Field Artillery, Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. He is the son of Gail Ross and the stepson of Ken Ross of Holden.

Basic training

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Air Force Airman Matthew Barker has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base. He is the son of Steven Barker of Mapleton and Carla Mahan of Hermon.

Advanced training

BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. – Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Daniel Macomber, grandson of Lucy Macomber of Brewer, recently graduated from the Naval Nuclear Power Training Program while assigned as a student to Naval Nuclear Power Unit in Ballston Spa, N.Y.

During the program, Macomber received basic and hands-on training in the operation of a nuclear reactor.

The program runs from one and half to two years and numerous academic milestones must be met.

Macomber earned the qualification of nuclear operator. He is a graduate of Piscataquis Community High School in Guilford.
