BANGOR – The League of Women Voters of Maine has postponed its event scheduled for Sept. 24 at the Bangor Public Library.
“Local Voices: Citizen Conversations on Civil Liberties and Secure Communities” will be rescheduled for sometime in March or April, League President Ann Luther said.
“We want to make people aware that we’re still very interested in the idea,” Luther said.
The postponement is due in part to lack of funding. The group raised 25 percent, about $500, of the total budget needed to host 50 people.
Luther also said that they were not able to put together a “top quality panel” for the September date.
Invitations were sent to both governmental and
nongovernmental people. Most, however, had conflicting schedules and would be unable to attend.
“We’ve learned a lesson from our experience this time,” Luther said, who plans to give the panel a choice of dates for the springtime event.
Luther said she hopes the Bangor Public Library still will be the venue next year.
