Machias board loses longtime members

MACHIAS – The Board of Selectmen has lost its two longest-serving members in the last month, Edward Pellon and Alayne Willard, for two different reasons.

Both had been selectmen for the last 18 years.

Pellon was not re-elected on Monday in a six-way race for two open seats, in advance of Tuesday’s annual town meeting. He finished third in the six-way balloting for a three-year term.

Willard resigned her position, having sold her Machias home and moving to a lake home in Marshfield.

Aubrey “Skip” Carter, an incumbent, and newcomer Norman Nelson collected the most votes for the positions that had belonged to Carter and Pellon.

Willard’s position will be filled by a separate vote at a special town meeting at a later date.

Carter and Nelson won their seats with 59 and 51 votes, respectively.

Additional votes were cast for Pellon (46), Leslie Haynes, Warren Guy and David Brown (26).
