Cote lifts Dexter to win Bangor girls blank Lawrence for victory in opener

DEXTER – Sabrina Cote scored a goal and assisted on two others to lead the Dexter Tigers to a 5-0 schoolgirl soccer victory over the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners Saturday.

Anna Fournier, Allyssa Crane, Tracy Mountain, and Kylie Keene each scored a goal for 1-0 Dexter. Christal Warren had an assist and Ashley Richardson stopped both shots that she faced.

Regyn Lawry and Polly Asawarachaniz combined to make 14 saves on 19 shots for 0-1 Deer Isle-Stonington.

Sumner 3, WA Raiders 2

At East Sullivan, Lona Sargent converted a breakaway off a Kylie Bragdon through ball in the second overtime as Sumner beat Washington Academy.

Bragdon had the other two goals for the Tigers and Whitney Page made 22 saves on 27 shots.

Sarah Rushforth scored both goals for the Washington Academy Raiders of East Machias and Meghan Looke finished with 14 saves on 19 shots.

Bangor 1, Lawrence 0

At Fairfield, Jessie Roberts scored on a Erin MacDermott assist with 14:44 remaining to lead Bangor to the opening victory.

Elyse Angst stopped one of three shots for 1-0 Bangor.

Katye Mayo made 12 saves on 23 shots for 0-1 Lawrence.

Football

Mount View 18, Nokomis 12

At Newport, Dennis Bermudez caught a 50-yard touchdown pass from Edwin Santana to break a 12-12 tie with four minutes left and give Mount View of Thorndike the win.

Kyle Harvey had 15 carries for 110 yards and scored a touchdown for Mount View. Santana and Bermudez combined for four passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns.

Bryan Boutilier had a 5-yard rushing touchdown and a 15- yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter in Nokomis’ first high school game.

Boys soccer

Vinalhaven 6, Valley 1

At Vinalhaven, Oakley Jackson led Vinalhaven to victory with three goals in the first half with one assisted by Chris Sawyer.

Johnny McCarthy, Sam Rosen and Keith Drury each added a goal in the second half. Thomas Somo had four saves on seven shots for 1-0 Vinalhaven.

Sebastian Jackson scored Valley’s only goal 33:00 into the game. Travis Hovey saved 10 out of 20 shots for the 0-1 Cavs.

Dexter 5, DI-Stonington 0

At Dexter, Ethan Woodman led Dexter to victory with three goals, two assisted by older brother Brandon Woodman and the other by Quinn Dillion.

Rick Stewart added two more goals in the second half with both assists from Adam Eastman. Chris Eastman saved four out of seven shots for 1-0 Dexter.

Miles Douglas had 19 saves on 36 shots for the 0-1 Mariners.

John Bapst 2, MDI 0

At BMHI field in Bangor, Ian Bamford and Jordan Myers each scored a first-half goal to lead the Crusaders by Mount Desert Island in the mutual season opener.

Patrick Kane and Dillon Connolle each added an assist for John Bapst and Chris Smith made 12 saves on 12 shots.

Max Blanford made 17 saves on 19 shots for MDI.

Greenville 1, Shead 0

At Greenville, Richie Chilson headed in the game-winning goal off of a throwin from Corey Woodbury with four seconds left in the game.

Woodbury threw in the ball which was first headed by Joe Jardin, and then headed again and in for the goal by Chilson. Brandon Lavigne had 13 saves on 13 shots for 2-0 Greenville.

Shead’s Craig Hastings saved nine of 21 shots for the 0-2 Tigers.

Hampden 13, Skowhegan 0

At Hampden, J Uhrin scored five goals to lead Hampden to victory.

Martin Early and Pat Fischer both scored three goals for 1-0 Hampden. Jerod Stephens had a goal and an assist and Aaron Gilio added a goal. Andre Cushing had three assists and Logan Larabee had two assists. Max Silver stopped the only shot that he faced.

Allan MacKay made eight saves on 46 shots for 0-1 Skowhegan.

JV: Hampden 6-0

Old Town 5, Messalonskee 4

At Oakland, Dillon Clark scored the game-winning goal, assisted by Nate Lonko, with one second left in the second overtime.

Lonko added two goals and Chris Brewer had an assist for 1-0 Old Town. Sam Petrie saved 15 out of 20 shots for 1-0 Old Town.

Messalonskee’s Matthew Dawes scored two goals with one assisted by David Rossignol. Rossignol and Isaac Breteon each added an unassisted goal. Kyle Joseph had five saves out of 10 shots for 0-1 Eagles.

JV: Old Town 4-3

Bangor 5, Lawrence 2

At Bangor, Jo Jo Hwalek scored a goal in the second half to break the 2-2 tie and lead Bangor to victory.

Adam Towne and Dylan George both had a goal and an assist for the 1-0 Rams. Kyle Leeman and Troy Jellison each scored a goal and Hwalek also had an assist. Austin Smith stopped four of six shots.

Steve Grudda scored both goals for 0-1 Lawrence of Fairfield and Matt Steven made an assist. Josh Shepherd made three saves on 16 shots.

JV: Bangor 9-0
