Calais trips up Houlton Bucksport, Searsport girls teams also post victories

CALAIS – Jacob Ludington’s penalty kick in the second half gave Calais a 3-1 lead and proved to be the game-winner in a 3-2 schoolboy soccer final over the Houlton Shiretowners Saturday.

Shawn Cavanaugh and Corey Thompson had the other goals for Calais with Alan Knowles picking up an assist and Scott Geel making five saves.

Sharif Abouleish and Ian Pasquarelli scored for Houlton and Eben Thompson made four stops.

Hampden 2, Waterville 0

At Waterville, Max Silver stopped four of nine shots to notch his second shutout of the season and keep Hampden Academy unbeaten.

For the 3-0 Broncos, Martin Earley scored unassisted and Logan Larrabee scored on an Andre Cushing assist.

Zack Jochem made five saves on eight shots for the 2-1 Purple Panthers.

JV: Hampden 2-0

Bangor 2, Messalonskee 1

At Oakland, Dylan George scored the winning goal, assisted by JoJo Hwalek, with 4:33 left in the game.

Bangor’s first goal was scored by Elliott Megquier with 19:44 into the first, with the assist from Adam Towne. Aaron Taft stopped four of seven shots for 3-0 Bangor.

Messalonskee’s Matt Dawes scored the equalizer at one with 31 seconds left in the first off a penalty kick. Kyle Joseph had eight saves on 16 shots for 2-1 Messalonskee.

Greenville 2, Buckfield 0

At Buckfield, the Lakers scored two goals in the first half to boost their record to 4-0.

Joe Jardine had a goal and assist to lead Greenville. Corey Woodbury added the Lakers other goal, while Durgin McKusick notched an assist.

Brandon Lavigne saved 10 of 13 shots.

Keeper Jerry Dodge stopped 18 balls on 24 shots for 1-1 Buckfield.

Schenck 2, DI-Stonington 1

At East Millinocket, Trevor Violette scored the game-winning goal with 5:10 left in the first half unassisted off a skirmish in front of the net.

Also for the 1-2 Schenck Wolverines, Steve Deveau scored on a J.C. Bresnahan assists and Lanny Thompson saved nine of 10 shots.

Collin Ciomei scored unassisted and Rob Brown made 20 saves on 25 shots for 1-2 Deer Isle-Stonington.

Central 3, Penquis 0

At Corinth Friday, Scott Kelley tallied two goals and one assist to lead the Red Devils to the win.

Danny Kane contributed a goal for 2-1 Central. Charles Haney made 10 saves on 14 shots.

Nick Emery stopped 25 out of 32 shots for the 0-4 Patriots of Milo.

Football

MDI 6, Oak Hill 0

At Mount Desert, defensive end Michael Dutra intercepted a pass with 36 seconds left in the game and ran it back 55 yards for the game’s only score to keep Mount Desert Island unbeaten on the season.

The Trojans ran 39 plays for just 53 total yards in this defensive struggle. Middle linebackers Jeremiah Cousins and Andrew Leiser made 21 and 18 tackles, respectively, to pace the defense. Wes Chipman had seven tackles and an interception.

Fullback Eric Daniels ran for 66 yards on 18 carries as Oak Hill of Sabattus tallied 176 total yards on 62 plays.

Girls soccer

Houlton 4, Calais 2

At Calais, Emily Bartlett led Houlton with a goal 5:30 into the first and added another in the second half.

Nicole Beals and Jerusha Benn each chipped in with a goal. Brittany Guiod stopped 14 of 16 shots for 2-6 Houlton.

Kayla Cobb and Darsey Gillespie scored Calais’ goals while Steph Perry saved 15 of 22 shots for 1-2 Calais.

Bucksport 2, Caribou 0

At Caribou, Terren Hall nailed a corner kick in the first half, giving Bucksport a 1-0 lead heading in to halftime.

In the second half, Lindsey Gordon scored off a Brittni Adams Pass.

Katie Hurd stopped seven of 11 shots for the 3-1 Golden Bucks.

Billie Martin made 12 saves on 20 shots for 2-3 Caribou.

Searsport 4, Sumner 2

At Searsport, Martha Landmesser led the Vikings to victory with two goals, one assisted by Sarah Fuller.

Haley Grove added a goal assisted by Abby Landmesser and Brittani Frisbie had an unassisted goal. Amanda Cheney saved four of seven shots for 2-1 Searsport.

Lana Sargent scored both of Sumner’s goals unassisted. Whitney Page had 15 saves on 24 shots for the 2-1 Tigers.

Messalonskee 3, Bangor 2 (2OT)

At Bangor, the Rams took a 2-0 lead when Erin Macdermott scored the pair of unassisted goals in the second half, however, the Eagles were able to respond.

Katie Tonge and Caitlin Watson each scored to send the game into double overtime.

Tonge helped boost the Eagles record to 3-0 with a boot at the 3:27 mark.

Katie O’Leary saved 12 of 14 shots for Messalonskee.

Ilyse Angst made 5 saves on 10 shots for the 2-1 Rams.

Central 3, Penquis 1

At Milo, the Central Red Devils won their first game of the season behind balanced scoring.

Emily Blackwell, Molly Chretien, and Randi McHugh each scored a goal for the 1-2 Devils. Jessica Daniel saved seven of 13 shots.

Miranda McSwain scored for the 0-3 Patriots and Johanna Kutz saved nine of 14 shots.

Orono 2, PCHS 0

At Orono, Lindsey Colbath scored a first half goal with an assist from Lauren Wheeler, and Lauren Young also added a first half goal with an assist from Asne Dahl.

Heath Woodbury and Brittney Pinkham combined for three saves on five shots for 2-0-1 Orono. Jill Martell stopped 15 of 20 shots for 0-3 PCHS.
