For the dogs

Treat your pet and help a good cause at Epi Sub & Pizza in Bangor. Through Sept. 24, the eatery will sell homemade dog biscuits to benefit Noah’s Wish, a rescue mission that is helping the animal victims of Hurricane Katrina. The biscuits cost $1 each and are available in oatmeal, peanut butter, carob, Parmesan and parsley flavors. For information, visit Epi’s at 128 Main St. in Bangor or call 942-3888.

Sweet relief

If you’re hungry to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, you can put your money where your mouth is, literally, at the New Orleans Relief Party from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, at Watts Hall in Thomaston. The event will feature food donated by local restaurants, businesses and friends, as well as music by Executive Sounds Mobile D.J. Donations will be accepted at the door. All proceeds from the event will be sent to the American Humane Association (www.americanhumane.org), Feed the Children (www.feedthechildren.org) and The Baton Rouge Area Foundation (www.braf.org).

Yankee ingenuity

Yankee’s editors have good taste in food and drinks – and apparently so does Maine. The September 2005 issue of the magazine has declared Maine home to New England’s best chef (Sam Hayward of Fore Street in Portland), best rural restaurant (Primo in Rockland), best romantic restaurant (Arrows in Ogunquit), and best microbrewery (D.L.
