SAN FRANCISCO – Bangor native and ex-Bangor High star athlete Matt Kinney is back in the big leagues, this time with the San Francisco Giants, who called him up from Triple A affiliate Fresno Sept. 6.
Kinney is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 7 2/3 innings of work with the Giants. Kinney earned his first major league win since June 8, 2004 with 5 2/3 innings of scoreless relief against San Diego Monday night. He allowed three hits and three walks while notching three strikeouts in a game featuring the return of Barry Bonds, who played his first game of the 2005 season.
Kinney went 7-8 with a 5.21 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 114 innings with Fresno. He also allowed 117 hits. Kinney began the season with Double A San Jose after signing with the Giants as a minor league free agent. He has gone 15-25 as a starter and reliever the last four seasons with three clubs: Minnesota, Milwaukee, and Kansas City.
