AKRON, Ohio – Akron pitcher Jake Dittler pitched shutout baseball through seven innings to lead the Aeros to a 4-1 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs for the Eastern League championship Saturday night.
Dittler allowed just five hits and two walks while striking out five to earn the victory at Canal Park.
Portland starter and loser David Pauley went four innings, allowing five hits, two runs, two walks and struck out four.
The Sea Dogs took the first game of the series 6-4, but dropped the next three to give Akron the championship.
Aeros outfielder Nathan Panther had four hits including a triple to earn Eastern League playoff MVP honors. Panther went 12-for-31 in eight games with two doubles, a home run, and five RBIs.
The Sea Dogs scored their lone run on an RBI double in the ninth inning by Hanley Ramirez.
