Eastman, Dexter shut out rival Piscataquis

DEXTER – Andy Crane scored the game-winning goal unassisted midway through the first half as the Dexter Tigers shut out rival Piscataquis Community High School 3-0 in schoolboy soccer action Monday.

Rick Stewart and Dan Beatham added a goal apiece for 6-1 Dexter. Brandon Woodman assisted on both goals. Chris Eastman had six saves on 10 shots.

Ryan Martell stopped 11 out of 23 shots for the 2-3-1 Pirates of Guilford.

JV: Dexter 2-0

Penobscot Valley 5, Penquis 2

At Howland, Matt Cummings scored two of his three goals in the first half as the Penobscot Valley Howlers took a 4-2 lead en route to their first victory.

Ryan Ware added a goal off a direct kick for the 1-4-1 Howlers and Cory Soucy scored off a Nik Hockridge pass. Brian Harris and Chad Trapier combined for 10 saves on 14 shots.

Nathan Allen and Leigh Dolley each scored an unassisted goal for the 1-5 Patriots of Milo and Nick Emery made 29 saves on 38 shots.

Orono 2, Central 1

At Corinth, Jeff Normand and Chris McConnon scored unassisted goals 16 minutes apart in the first half as the Red Riots edged Central.

Mat Lint had 13 saves on 18 shots for 4-0-1 Orono.

Scott Kelly scored for the 3-2 Red Devils with Tyler Seed getting the assist. Charles Haney stopped nine out of 15 shots.

JV: Orono 2-0

Bangor 5, Nokomis 0

At Bangor, Dylan George netted a goal and dished out an assist as the Rams improved to 6-0.

Zak Martin, Adam Towne, Tony Martinez, and Ross Allen added a goal apiece for Bangor while Kyle Leeman notched an assist. Austin Smith and Aaron Taft combined to make one save on three shots.

Wayne May stopped nine out of 29 shots for the 1-5 Warriors of Newport.

Greenville 3, Calvary Chapel 1

At Bangor, Jonah Lizotte and Durgin McKusick both scored with less than six minutes left to break the tie for the win.

Richie Chilsom added the other goal in the first half while Brandon Lavigne had 11 saves on 12 shots for 5-0 Greenville.

Erik Kreitz scored the goal for 2-2 Calvary Chapel of Orrington while Tim Arbo had 11 saves on 14 shots.

Girls soccer

Hampden 6, Brewer 0

At Brewer, Jenna Shue led Hampden with two goals in the first half and one in the second.

Annaliese Lafayette, Lauren Jadallah and Nori Francis-Mezger each added a goal for the winners.

Michelle Wells and Siobhan Grogan combined for eight saves on eight shots for 4-2 Hampden. Carolyn Tuck had 14 saves on 21 shots for 2-4 Brewer.

MDI 5, Foxcroft Academy 1

At Dover-Foxcroft, Katie Klaver, Kaitlyn Vaux, Sarah March and Elizabeth Buchannan each scored an unassisted goal in the first half to lead Mount Desert Island.

Caitlyn Glass added another unassisted goal in the second half for the 4-2 winners and Christina McKay stopped 15 of 18 shots.

Lindsay Chase scored the goal for Foxcroft while Brittany Fadley and Lauren Kousaie combined for 18 saves on 25 shots for the 3-3 Ponies.

JV: MDI 5-0

Bangor 2, Nokomis 0

At Newport, the Rams received first-half goals from Jessie Roberts and Courtney Stevenson and Alyse Angst made seven saves in posting her fifth shutout.

Catherine LeClair had an assist for 5-1 Bangor.

Nikki Cianchette made 14 saves in the first half for 1-5 Nokomis and Rozlyn Petersen made nine more in the second half.

JV: Bangor 8-3

Field hockey

Waterville 2, MCI 0

At Pittsfield, Chanelle Lansley and Whitney Russo each tallied an unassisted goal for the Purple Panthers in the win.

Beth O’Brien blocked all 11 shots she faced for Waterville.

Courtney Howe stopped 11 of 13 shots for the Huskies.

Mattanawcook 4, Orono 3 (OT)

At Orono, Michelle Paul scored her second goal of the game with 43 seconds left in overtime, lifting the Lynx to victory.

Dyna Vose and Kaitlin Shorey scored one goal each for 3-3 Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln. Sarah French and Tammy Savage combined to make five saves on eight shots.

Rachel Bergman, Emily Artesani and Emily Sypher tallied goals for 1-6 Orono. Kristine Kittridge made six saves on 10 shots.

JV: Mattanawcook Acad. 2-0

Stearns 2, Piscataquis 1 (OT)

At Millinocket, Jamie Johnson scored off a pass from Amy Collinsworth 54 seconds into the extra session as Stearns remained undefeated at 6-0.

Collinsworth scored 1:05 into the game for the Minutemen. Deanna Michaud stopped all 12 shots she faced.

Heather Tracy scored unassisted for the 4-2 Pirates of Guilford. Jessica Pratt made seven saves against 10 shots.

Foxcroft 2, Hermon 1

At Hermon, Molly Cyr scored the winning goal with 8:25 left in the second half with an assist from Kayla Clukey.

Kayla Clukey scored the first goal for Dover while Morgan Rice stopped 13 of 14 shots for the 5-0 Ponies.

Ashley M. Ross scored off a pass from Lily Barry while Kaitlyn Applebee saved 23 of 25 shots for 1-4 Hermon.

JV: Hermon 2-1

Central 4, Brewer 0

At the Winkin Complex in Bangor, Beth Dauphinee registered a goal plus an assist as the host Red Devils of Corinth blanked the Witches.

Eliza and Traci Underhill added a goal apiece for 6-1 Central while Hilary Haney provided an assist. Rachel Trafton notched a goal. Tara Voisine stopped all five shots she faced.

Melissa Dunn had 21 saves on 25 shots for 0-7 Brewer.

JV: Central 5-0

Football

Belfast 8, Oak Hill 0

At Sabattus, John Walsh’s interception late in the fourth quarter deep in Lions territory sealed Belfast’s second win of the season.

Sean Leeman scored the game’s lone touchdown on a 17-yard run in the third quarter for Belfast. He finished with 110 yards on 21 carriers. Jake Arthurs also had an interception. The Lions’ defense held Oak Hill to 160 yards of offense, including 51 on the ground.

The Raiders stopped the Lions on two potential scoring drives early in the game, in which Belfast had driven inside Oak Hill’s 20.
