Man faces charge in Bangor domestic assault

Officer Kevin MacLaren of the Bangor Police Department arrested a man on a charge of assault and for a probation violation over the weekend.

According to police reports, MacLaren responded to a call of a domestic dispute on Court Street around noon Saturday and met the victim in front of her home.

She reportedly said that her fiance, Richard Allard, 33, residence unknown, had struck her in the face after a verbal argument. The victim packed Allard’s things into a backpack, put it on the front porch and yelled at him to leave the premises.

Allard left riding his mountain bike. MacLaren found him on the bike on Harlow Street, approached him and asked him what happened. Allard allegedly admitted to having an argument, and became upset.

MacLaren placed him under arrest and took him to Penobscot County Jail, where it was discovered that Allard had a warrant out for his arrest from Piscataquis County Superior Court because his probation had been revoked.

A drunken bar patron was arrested for criminal trespass over the weekend in Old Town after he was thrown out of a pub but then returned, police said.

Officer Mike Holmes responded to a call from the Riverfront Pub, where it was alleged that Alexander Pelkey, 21, of Milford had been harassing patrons and grabbing at females there. Pelkey was thrown out of the establishment and left the scene.

He apparently walked around the block once, then returned to the bar and attempted to get back in by climbing onto a deck on the back, police said. Bar employees called Old Town police, and Holmes arrived on the scene and arrested Pelkey on a charge of criminal trespass.

A patient at Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center in Bangor assaulted a staff member and a fellow patient over the weekend and was summoned for two counts of assault, police said.

Police reports stated that Officer Douglas Moore met two staff members at the entrance to the facility, formerly known as the Bangor Mental Health Institute, at around 1 p.m. Saturday.

One of the staff members reportedly said she had been assigned to a “one on one” with Kevan Shave, 32, of Bangor, and was sitting outside her room, monitoring her. Shave came out of her room and punched the victim in the face and then pushed her against a wall, police said.

Several staff members subdued Shave, who also allegedly spat in the victim’s face. The victim was very concerned about that, as Shave is known to have hepatitis B.

Moore was informed of the fact that there had been another assault involving Shave on Friday, when the suspect allegedly attacked another patient. Shave was issued summonses for both alleged assaults.

A Bangor man attempted to steal about $240 worth of merchandise from Shaw’s Supermarket on Main Street but was arrested before he could leave the premises, police said.

Sgt. Al Hayden came to the grocery store at approximately 3:30 p.m. Saturday and was met by a loss prevention employee, who said that Jeffrey Dill, 22, of Bangor had stuffed about $240 worth of beauty supplies, over-the-counter medication and general merchandise down his pants. Hayden spoke with Dill, who admitted to stealing the merchandise, police said.

Hayden said he found various prescription medications on the suspect, including morphine and OxyContin. Dill claimed to have prescriptions for them all.

Hayden also allegedly found several packets of marijuana and a marijuana pipe. Dill was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail. Police are seeking to verify whether Dill had prescriptions.
