Tasty tour
Looking for inspiration in the kitchen? Reserve your tickets now for the Eastern Maine Medical Center Auxiliary’s Kitchen Tour, which takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15. The tour will feature cuisine from local chefs and shops served in eight homes throughout Bangor. All proceeds benefit the EMMC neonatal intensive care unit. Tickets cost $20 and are available at the hospital’s gift shop, Rebecca’s, The Grasshopper Shop, Patrick’s Hallmark, Affiliated Pharmacy, Westgate Pharmacy at the Healthcare Mall and Airline Pharmacy.
Cheese, please
Tart and tangy, smooth and creamy, rich and crumbly – whatever your taste, there’s a Maine-made artisinal cheese for you. At the Maine Cheese Guild’s annual cheese and wine festival, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, you can sample the best cheeses – and wines – the state has to offer. Jeffrey Roberts of the Vermont Institute for Artisan Cheese will give the keynote address, “Terroir, the Taste of Place.” Participants can also attend cheesemaking demonstrations. On Sunday, Oct. 16, the cheesemakers will hold a free open farm day. For the festival, tickets cost $7 for the general public, $5 for guild members and $5 in advance at State of Maine Cheese Co. in Rockport. The art of wine
Wine lovers and art aficionados unite at the Wine Cellar Art Gallery at John Edwards Market in Ellsworth. From 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, Pine State Trading Co. will hold a wine tasting featuring a selection of varieties at the gallery, which shows paintings and sculpture by local artists.
