Scrapping for Scouts and those in need is the focus of a “Columbus Weekend Scrapbook Crop” from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Yesterday’s Scraps, 118 Harlow St. in Bangor.

Admission for the daylong event, including lunch and dinner, is $25.

Barb Seeley of Yesterday’s Scraps reports that proceeds will benefit Bangor’s Brownie Scout Troop 578 “to support our work with local food cupboards throughout the year.”

Adding to the fun and camaraderie of this very popular hobby is the fact that troop members will be preparing and serving the meals.

So if you enjoy scrapbooking and helping others, plan to attend.

Members of Old Town Museum invite you to their next Sunday program fundraiser, a 1-hour production by the Y-Players of the Bangor Y at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at the Museum, 353 Main St.

Refreshments will be served after the performance and guests are welcome to visit with the performers and browse through the museum.

Admission is a donation to help raise funds for the much needed replacement of the museum’s heating system and roof.

There is plenty of parking and the museum’s side entrance is handicapped accessible.

If you cannot attend but wish to visit the museum, it is open 1-5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

To mark its 40th year in business and the 10th anniversary of ownership by Don and Paula Hanson, Green Acres Kennel Shop invites the public to celebrate this dual occasion beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Green Acres, 1653 Union St. in Bangor.

Several educational sessions will be offered on this special day to help those who want to learn how to train, understand and care for their pets.

Since space is limited in these sessions, the Hansons request a $5 preregistration fee to reserve your space.

All registration fees will benefit the Bangor Humane Society Shed and Emily Fund.

If space is available walk-ins will be welcome.

The sessions include two “Recall Clinics,” one at 9 a.m. and the other at 3 p.m. that day; “Introduction to Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture for Pets,” with Dr. Mark Hanks of Veazie Veterinary Clinic, from 10 to 11 a.m.; two “Walking Politely Clinics,” one at 10 a.m. and the other at 4 p.m.; and a session about how to “Communicate with your Dog through Calming Signals” from 2 to 3 p.m., all at Green Acres.

The public is invited to join Searsport District High School Alumni Association members in two homecoming events this weekend, which coincide with Searsport’s “Fling Into Fall” celebration.

Wayne Hamilton of Hamilton Marine in Searsport will present and narrate “Hometown Folks: Then & Now,” at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, in the music room at the Searsport District High School.

His PowerPoint slide presentation will feature photographs of local students and residents.

The presentation is free and open to the public.

You are also invited to enjoy two basketball games featuring the high school’s male and female alumni, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Memorial Gymnasium on Mortland Road in Searsport.

Admission is $5 per person and Viking alumni association T-shirts will be on sale before and during the games.
