News in brief CARMEL: TOWN TO HOLD FALL CLEANUP

The town of Carmel will hold its annual fall pickup this weekend. Griffin’s Disposal Services Inc. will start collecting items beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, Town Manager James Collins said Monday. Only certain items will be collected. The list of acceptable materials includes household appliances, stoves, washing machines, dryers, water tanks, refrigerators and air conditioners. Freon must be removed from items before they will be collected. Acceptable bulky waste includes couches, stuffed chairs, mattresses, carpet cut in 4-foot sections and plastic pipes. Loose items must be boxed or bagged. Items that will not be picked up include gas cans and tanks, any metal that contains a liquid such as resin or paint. No automobile parts will be accepted and the same is true for televisions, computer monitors, fluorescent lights, batteries, micro-waves and thermometers. No household garbage, dead animals or wood waste will be accepted.
