Stewart lifts Tigers over Riots

DEXTER – Rick Stewart’s goal with 3:12 left in the first half lifted the Dexter Tigers to a 1-0 schoolboy soccer victory over the Orono Red Riots Thursday.

After a shot deflected off the goalie and back out, Brandon Woodman got control of the ball at midfield, started a breakaway, and found Stewart outside the 18 before Stewart scored on a shot to the left corner. Chris Eastman made seven saves on 11 shots for his second shutout with the 11-1-1 Tigers.

Mat Lint made nine saves on 18 shots for the 10-1-2 Red Riots.

Presque Isle 9, Foxcroft 0

At Dover-Foxcroft, Greg Whitaker scored three goals to lead the unbeaten Presque Isle Wildcats to a shutout over the Ponies.

Brendon Esquibel scored two goals for the 12-0 Wildcats. Nate Carter, Gabe Cheney, Ethan Hill, and Luke Ireland each scored a goal. Adam Kingsbury and Chris Wilcox combined to make two saves on two shots.

Chris Heretakis and Matt Anderson combined for 20 saves on 29 shots by the 1-9 Ponies.

Old Town 3, Brewer 2

At Brewer, Corey Fournier scored the winning goal with 15:00 remaining in the game to lead Old Town by Brewer.

Nate Lonko added by scoring two goals while Ethan Shanley saved four of 11 shots for 4-7 Old Town.

Andrew Richardson and Jeremy Proulx each scored a goal in the first with assists coming from Marc Relford and Prentiss Swett for 3-8 Brewer. Chris Brady had six saves on 10.

Lee 4, So. Aroostook 1

At Dyer Brook, Yun Jung scored two goals to lead the Pandas to victory.

Doob Dow and Branden Crocker added a goal apiece and Tom Bird an assist for 8-3-1 Lee. Kris Kane and Cameron Hamilton combined for five saves on six shots.

Jeremy Boutlier scored for the 8-3-1 Warriors, with Josh Branscome getting the assist. Colby Clark stopped 15 of 19 shots.

Central 7, Penquis 0

At Milo, Scott Kelley and Danny Kane each had one goal and one assist to lead the Red Devils to the win.

Teague Palmer, Matt Connolly, Jacob Speed, Ryan Nickerson and Joe Faggiole tallied a goal apiece for 7-5 Central of Corinth. Charles Haney made one save on five shots.

Nick Emery saved 17 of 25 shots for the 2-9 Patriots.

Schenck 3, Katahdin 1

At East Millinocket, J.C. Bresnahan recorded two goals in the second half to help lead Schenck to the win.

Bresnahan’s second goal was assisted by Steven Deveau. Trevor Violette scored a goal with an assist from Joe Ruitto. Lanni Thompson had nine saves on 15 shots for the Wolverines.

Keith Anderson netted a penalty kick with 1:28 left while Burton Brayall saved nine of 20 shots for Katahdin of Stacyville.

John Bapst 0, MDI 0 (2OT)

At Bar Harbor, the Crusaders of Bangor and Trojans couldn’t muster a goal through two overtimes.

Max Blandford had six saves on 11 shots for 5-4-1 MDI while Crhis Smith stopped four of six shots for 5-5-1 John Bapst.

JV: John Bapst 2-1

Ellsworth 5, Hermon 1

At Ellsworth, Chris Baze scored a pair of goals to lead Ellsworth to the win.

Yonas Millay, Matt Homich and Demetrios Katsaificas added a goal apiece the 6-3-1 Eagles. Cory Smith and Greg Perry teamed up to make seven saves on 13 shots.

Ryan Tarr scored the lone goal for the 6-5 Hawks. Josh Blaine and Cory Johnson stopped four of 16 shots.

Girls soccer

Lee 10, Southern Aroostook 0

At Dyer Brook, Kimmy Thurlow and Amanda Gifford each scored two goals to help lead Lee to victory.

Jackie Moors, Liz Read, Jodi Worcester and Aarika Ritchie each added a goal in the first half while Nicole Slevinsky and Dana Houghton scored goals in the second. Houghton, Ritchie and Thurlow each recorded an assist.

Kerri Harris made six saves on eight shots for 10-0 Lee while Shana Martin and Amanda Charette combined for nine saves on 22 shots for 5-6-1 Southern Aroostook.

Calvary Chapel 4, East Grand 1

At Danforth, Chauntel Veilleux netted three goals in the first half to lead Calvary Chapel to victory.

Veilleux’s goals were assisted by Ashley Pomeroy and Emilie Ericson. Pomeroy added a goal in the second half. Hannah Lacadie saved nine of 10 shots for the Sabers of Orrington.

Jackie Dodge had a goal in the first with an assist from Tiffany Shay for the Vikings. Jodie Crone stopped nine of 13 shots.

Greenville 2, Rangeley 0

At Rangeley, Hannah Breton scored five minutes into the game and Brittany Bouchard added another seven minutes into the second half to lead Greenville past Rangeley.

Beth Bartley stopped four of four shots for 11-0 Greenville while Krista Jamison had eight saves on 18 shots for 6-5 Rangeley.

Hampden 4, Nokomis 1

At Newport, Lindsay Martin tallied two goals as Hampden improved to 9-2-1.

Annaliese Lafayette registered one goal and one assist while Lauren Jadallah added a goal for the Broncos. Michelle Wells made five saves on nine shots.

Teplyn Fournier scored on a penalty kick for 1-11 Nokomis. Rozlyn Petersen saved 12 of 30 shots.

JV: Hampden 7-0

Field hockey

Foxcroft 3, Hermon 2

At Dover-Foxcroft, Kayla Clukey scored two of her three goals in the second half to rally the Ponies past the Hawks.

Clukey’s game-winner was scored with 7 minutes left, as she corralled a loose ball in the circle. She scored the equalizer with 11 minutes left. All three goals were unassisted.

Morgan Rice made five saves on seven shots for 9-5 Foxcroft.

Melissa Spann and Lillian Barry each scored an unassisted goal for 3-11 Hermon. Carrie Cole stopped 20 of 23 shots.

JV: Hermon 3-0
