STEUBEN – Speed and alcohol were factors in a late-night accident Wednesday that injured a 42-year-old local man.
According to Deputy Travis Willey of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Troy Stanwood was traveling north on Pigeon Hill Road in Steuben at about 11 p.m. when his pickup truck went off the right side of the road and into a ditch.
The vehicle traveled through the ditch, over a bridge embankment and struck the opposite embankment. Stanwood suffered injuries that were not considered life threatening. He was taken by ambulance to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. There was no word on his condition Thursday, Willey said.
Although officers did not reconstruct the accident, Willey said speed and alcohol were factors. The speed was “excessive,” the officer said. The alcohol issue remains under investigation.
