Fitzpatrick sparks Houlton boys McLaughlin scores 3 goals as Wolverines down Shiretowner girls

HOULTON – Aaron Fitzpatrick scored two first-half goals to lead Houlton to a 2-0 boys soccer victory over Schenck on Friday.

Sharis Abouleish notched an assist for 2-9-1 Houlton. Eben Thompson gained the shutout, saving all eight shots he faced.

Lanny Thompson made nine saves on 11 shots for the Wolverines of East Millinocket, who fell to 4-6-1.

Woodland 2, Calais 1

At Woodland, John Deacon broke a 1-1 halftime score with a 19-yard direct kick into the top corner of the net with 20 minutes to play in regulation.

Jeremy Burke scored on a penalty kick in the first half for the 8-3 Dragons. Brandon Tomah, Craig Moody, and Todd Townsend combined to save 15 of 17 shots.

Jacob Luddington notched the goal for the 10-2 Blue Devils. Scott Geel made 17 saves on 18 shots.

Bangor 0, Mt. Blue 0 (2OT)

At Bangor, Austin Smith made seven saves on nine shots for 10-1-1 Bangor.

Justin Davis stopped 10 of 19 shots for the 7-4-1 Cougars of Farmington.

Bangor Christian 4, Searsport 1

At Searsport, Ignacio Bustos netted three goals to set up the Patriots’ win.

Josh Griffin added the other goal and one assist, while Brock Bradford also notched an assist. John Frost stopped eight of nine shots for Bangor Christian.

Matt Nickerson scored the Viking goal with a pass from Kyle Ritchie. Garrett Greenlaw made 19 saves on 24 shots.

Foxcroft 2, Piscataquis 2 (2OT)

At Guilford, B.J. Bombero tied the game on an unassisted shot for the Foxcroft Academy Ponies with three minutes left in regulation.

Foxcroft, now 1-10-1, came back from a 1-0 halftime deficit when Chris Lee put the Ponies on the board early in the second period. Victor Codina was credited with the assist.

Mike Wharff notched the unassisted, first-half goal for the 4-6-2 Pirates, while Roy Burdin scored on a penalty kick in the second half. Ryan Martell saved 16 of 18 shots.

Chris Heretakis stopped 20 balls on 25 shots.

JV: FA 4-0

Lee 4, Deer Isle-Stonington 0

At Union Street Field in Bangor, Minh Gu Rhee scored three goals to push Lee Academy to victory.

Tom Bird scored a goal for the 7-4 Pandas. Everett Houghton and Pete Pickering each had an assist. Kris King stopped six of 10 shots.

Ron Brown made 24 saves on 34 shots for 3-8 Deer Isle-Stonington.

Girls soccer

Schenck 3, Houlton 1

At Houlton, Courtney McLaughlin recorded all three goals to lead the Wolverines.

Gabrielle Rioux and Morgan Wallace each tallied one assist.

Lainey Herring scored a first-half goal for the Shiretowners, while Sarah Harbison added the assist. Nicole Manton made four saves on seven shots for 3-9 Houlton.

Robin Larlee saved 13 of 14 shots for Schenck of East Millinocket, who improved to 8-4.

Shead 1, Narraguagus 0

At Eastport, Laureta Ricker scored the winning goal with 12:25 left in the first half off assists from Randi Smith and Whitney Vinson to give Shead the win.

Dorothy Pottle stopped all five shots she faced for 5-5-1 Shead.

Samantha Baker stopped 11 of 15 shots for 6-3-2 Narraguagus of Harrington.

Washington Acad. 6, Sumner 2

At East Machias, Sarah Rushforth scored four goals as the Raiders avenged a 2-1 overtime loss by upending Sumner of East Sullivan.

Samantha Rodriguez had a goal and an assist, and Jocelyn Corey scored the other goal. Megan Look made six saves on 11 shots.

Kylie Bragdon and Kayla Higgins scored for 2-10 Sumner, and Whitney Page made 16 saves on 26 shots.

John Bapst 9, Foxcroft 0

At Bangor, Whitney Sinclair scored three goals and assisted two others to power John Bapst to victory.

Kari Havnevik scored twice for the 9-2 Crusaders. Sara Lammert, Taylor Greenlaw, Kylie Hopkins, and Emily Snyder each scored a goal, and Molly Jones had two assists. Caroline Cassling and Sinclair combined to make one save on two shots.

Brittany Fadley stopped 23 of 39 shots for 4-7-1 Foxcroft Academy.

Brewer 4, Old Town 2

At Brewer, Sarah Risser scored the tying and go-ahead goals to spark a second-half flurry by the Witches.

Old Town led 1-0 at halftime, but Brewer scored four in a row in the second half for a 4-1 lead.

Elizabeth Cote scored for 4-7 Brewer off an assist from her sister Erika, and Katie Quimby had a goal and an assist. Carolyn Tuck made seven saves on nine shots.

Katie Bergeron and Allison gallant tallied for 1-9-1 Old Town, and Nicole Guay made 14 saves on 18 shots.

Lee 7, Deer Isle-Stonington 0

At the Husson College field in Bangor, Aarika Ritchie scored three goals and assisted another to pace the Pandas.

Amanda Gifford scored twice for 11-0 Lee, and Kim Thurlow and Brooke Harris each added a goal. Jackie Moors and Gifford combined t o stop all four Mariner shots.

Anika Powers made 25 saves on 32 shots for 2-9-1 Deer Isle-Stonington.

Field hockey

Nokomis 1, Hampden 1 (2OT)

At Newport, Tini Lumino tied the game for the Broncos with 16:05 remaining in regulation, sending the game into overtime.

Devon Carroll scored the game’s first goal with 52 seconds left in the first half off a Dana Jo Gardner assist. Beth Flanders faced 15 shots and saved 14 for the 4-7-1 Warriors.

Kathryn Gause made 13 saves on 14 shots for Hampden, now 9-3-1.

Stearns 3, Dexter 0

At Millinocket, Deanna Michaud earned the shutout for the 9-4 Minutemen, saving all 12 shots in net.

Felicia Achorn had a goal and one assist, while Adriana Eurich and Amy Collinsworth also knocked in goals. Jamie Johnson added an assist.

Katie Poirier made 10 saves on 15 shots for the 9-3-1 Tigers.

John Bapst 2, Old Town 0

At Old Town, Hillary Laferriere earned the shutout for the 12-1 Crusaders of Bangor, saving all four shots she faced.

Christina Andrle netted a goal and had an assist for Bapst, while Ali Dunn also notched a second-half score.

Kitty Campbell made 15 saves on 17 shots for Old Town, now 1-11-1.

Football

Orono 34, Stearns 6

At Orono, Mardy Simon had 10 carries for 167 yards and scored two touchdowns to propel the Red Riots past the Minutemen.

Jared Bussell threw a 49-yard pass to Travis Bryant for a touchdown and also had a 2-yard rush to add another touchdown. Travis Dunton scored on a 20-yard run.

Seth Dwyer intercepted two passes for Orono, and Travis Ward had 10 tackles.

Tom Jones scored on a 2-yard run for Stearns of Millinocket. Jon Campbell had 16 tackles.
