Hunter safety courses abound Blue Hill Rifle and Pistol club to hold annual autumn shoot

With deer season rapidly approaching, many veteran hunters are still looking to enroll their young relatives in hunter safety courses.

Those courses can be required for those wishing to hold an adult license in the state, and attending one is a good way for junior hunters to become more knowledgeable before heading into the woods with mom or dad.

Some of the last-chance classes taking place around the state:

. In Houlton, at Military Street Baptist Church, Oct. 30 and Nov. 1 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., call Chris Marley at 532-7069.

. In Frenchville, at Black Bear Rod and Gun Club, Oct. 19, 20, 24, 25 from 6 to 9 p.m., Oct. 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., call Chris Haskins at 543-7480.

Blue Hill shoot on tap

The Blue Hill Rifle and Pistol Club will hold its annual fall shoot on Sunday.

The shoot will begin at 10 a.m., rain or shine.

Scheduled events include standard trap shooting, wobble trap, standing deer, running deer, .410 turkey shoot for kids, archery, and indoor shooting.

Shooters of all skill levels are welcome to participate. A raffle will be held with a grand prize of a $300 gift certificate at Treestump Leather or a $200 gift certificate at American Express.

Refreshments will be available.

The Blue Hill Rifle and Pistol Club is located on Range Road off Route 15. For more information call 359-8015.
