ROCKLAND – Freshman Nate Warren rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns in the second half to lift Bucksport to a 30-21 high school football victory over Rockland Friday night at Wasgatt Field.

Unofficially, the win should give Bucksport the fourth seed in the LTC playoffs that begin next weekend.

Orono, which dropped a 21-20 decision to John Bapst of Bangor on Friday night, is expected to remain the third seed.

Orono, Bucksport and Rockland all finish with 5-4 records, but both Orono and Bucksport finished tied in Crabtree points ahead of Rockland.

Orono wins the subsequent two-way tiebreaker with Bucksport by virtue of its 28-25 triple-overtime win over the Golden Bucks in Week 7, giving the Red Riots the third seed and a semifinal matchup against No. 2 Foxcroft Academy.

Bucksport will face No. 1 Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln next weekend.

Warren, who had just three carries for nine yards in the first half, finished the night with 193 yards on 26 rushes for the Golden Bucks.

Bucksport trailed 14-6 at halftime, but Warren scored on a 58-yard run 50 seconds into the third quarter to cut the deficit to 14-12.

Andrew Weiss then fumbled the ball on Rockland’s next possession, and Bucksport’s Clay Feero recovered the ball and raced 45 yards for a touchdown to give the Bucks an 18-12 lead less than two minutes into the period.

Warren added scoring runs of 9 and 35 yards around an 18-yard touchdown pass from Weiss to Dom Morrill.

Mike Marsh scored a pair of first-half touchdowns as Rockland took the early lead.

Bucksport’s lone first-quarter score came on a 24-yard pass from Derek Fish to Todd Freeman.

Marsh finished with 77 yards on 15 carries to top 1,000 rushing yards on the season.

Weiss completed 9 of 17 passes for 127 yards with one TD and two interceptions.

John Bapst 21, Orono 20

At Hampden Academy, John Bapst of Bangor made 21 first-quarter points stand up for a season-ending victory.

Orono rallied to within 21-20 and had the ball deep in John Bapst territory in the final minute of the game, but John Bapst’s Tom Keefe intercepted a pass near the goal line to preserve the win.

Despite the loss, Orono is expected to get the third seed for the LTC Class C playoffs that begin next weekend.

Kyle Gallant completed 7 of 16 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown for John Bapst, and the sophomore also rushed for 30 yards and a touchdown.

Ron St. Pierre added 85 rushing yards and a TD on 16 carries, while Nick Smith rushed for 37 yards and Zach Burnett made three pass receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown.

Mardy Simon paced Orono with 28 carries for 148 yards and a touchdown, while Jared Bussell completed 5 of 7 passes for 130 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Foxcroft Acad. 60, Dexter 14

At Dover-Foxcroft, senior quarterback Logan Forrest passed for 203 yards and two touchdowns as the Ponies earned their 17th straight victory in their rivalry with Dexter.

The win, Foxcroft’s eighth straight this fall, also extended the Ponies’ home field winning streak to 24 games.

Brad Bellemare rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns on five carries for Foxcroft, while Joey Caparrelli added 97 yards and two scores on five carries and fullback James McPhee rushed for 64 yards and three TDs on 10 tries.

Jon Catell had two pass receptions for 104 yards for Foxcroft, including a 58-yard touchdown pass. Scott McKusick caught a 45-yard touchdown pass for the Ponies.

Foxcroft, which jumped out to a 39-8 halftime lead, amassed 548 yards of total offense.

Billy Greene paced Dexter offensively with 68 yards on 18 carries, while Mike Lockhart rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown on 21 tries.

Quarterback Steve Robinson added a 16-yard touchdown run for the Tigers.

At Millinocket, Duncan Markie led the offense for Mattanawcook with 17 carries for 142 yards and two touchdowns.

Randy Reed opened up the first quarter for the Lynx with seven carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns, including a 77-yard run.

Stearns’ Gene Kim had 22 carries for 113 yards. On defense, John Campbell recorded 15 tackles for the Minutemen.

At Belfast, Waterville quarterback Dan Hussey returned to action after missing two games and completed 8 of 10 passes for 208 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing 19 yards for a touchdown in this Pine Tree Conference Class B quarterfinal.

The No. 5 Purple Panthers advance to a semifinal next weekend against the winner of Saturday’s game between No. 1 Winslow and No. 8 Oak Hill of Sabattus.

The sophomore’s passing performance was highlighted by a 70-yard touchdown strike to Barrett Moore in the fourth quarter.

Hussey also threw touchdown passes of 34 and 19 yards to Nick Stone and a 9-yard scoring pass to Finley Allen.

Sean Leeman led No. 4 Belfast with 28 carries for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Andy Whalen added a 1-yard TD run for the Lions.

At Pittsfield, Woody Noyes had 10 carries for 155 yards, including an 85-yard touchdown run, to lead the Bulldogs past the Maine Central Institute Huskies.

Noyes also notched nine tackles and had an interception.

Dan Kalagher completed two passes for 41 yards and also had nine carries for 46 yards for the Bulldogs. Tim Fortin made 16 tackles and had an interception.

Victor Quint had two interceptions while C.J. Lasselle recorded a fumble recovery for MCI. The Huskies totaled 149 passing yards.
