Holden police follow leads in paintball vandalism spree

Holden police are investigating a string of paintball incidents reported around 6 p.m. Monday and believe they have evidence that might lead to suspects.

Officer Chris Greeley said Monday that two vehicles parked on Levenseller Road were vandalized with paintballs.

Witnesses said six to 10 juveniles were involved, but by the time police arrived, the suspects had scattered. Police searched the area briefly and, with help from a Maine State Police K-9, found a purple baseball hat and a hockey-style mask.

The hat had “King 32” written on the inside in black ink, Greeley said, and he hopes that information might lead to whoever was involved.

The officer asked anyone with information to call Holden police at 843-5151.

A Bangor man was issued a summons for theft Sunday for reportedly stealing a large bag full of empty cans from a convenience store and trying to flee on a bicycle.

A witness saw a man, later identified as 43-year-old Alvin Moreno, take a bag of cans from outside Cameron’s Market on Ohio Street and then leave on a bicycle, dragging the cans behind him.

The witness followed Moreno in his car and called police, who stopped the biker on Harlow Street. Moreno admitted to taking the cans, which were valued at about $20, although about half of them were lost along the way, according to a police report.

A man was arrested Friday evening on multiple charges after a Brewer police officer clocked his car at 100 mph on Interstate 395 and then chased the man briefly through the city.

Cpl. David Lord caught up to the vehicle at about 10:30 p.m. near the Wilson Street exit of I-395. Lord started to chase him, but stopped when he saw the car being driven on the wrong side of the road. The officer said Monday that he feared a chase through traffic could force the driver to drive even worse.

The driver, identified as Brent A. Inman, 35, of Stetson, eventually pulled his car into an alleyway between two buildings on Wilson Street where a witness spotted the car and called police.

Lord arrested Inman a short time later and took him to Penobscot County Jail. Inman was charged with operating under the influence, operating after suspension, eluding an officer, driving to endanger and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A Bangor woman who reported the theft of her wallet sometime Saturday found out Monday that the thief had used various cards approximately 20 times, according to police.

The 22-year-old Otis Street resident told police that sometime between 9 and 10:30 p.m. Saturday, somebody entered her apartment and stole her wallet. The burglar reportedly “carded” the door to get inside, police said, then left through a window.

The wallet also contained $200 cash in addition to several credit cards. Police had no suspects Monday.
