Car tires found slashed morning after Halloween

Several Bangor residents woke up Tuesday morning to find that their car tires had been slashed and their windshields broken, police said.

Twelve reports of slashed tires and another seven calls regarding broken windshields were reported to police early Tuesday morning. The reports were from all over the city and were not concentrated in any specific area, police said.

The estimated value of the slashed tires was $2,000 and about $5,200 for the seven windshields.

There were no suspects as of Tuesday afternoon, but police urged anyone with information regarding the incidents to call 947-7384.

Two men were arrested early Tuesday morning in separate incidents at Ushuaia nightclub in Orono.

Derek Conner, 18, of Bucksport was removed from the club after he reportedly elbowed his ex-girlfriend in the face. Conner also fought with bouncers at the club before leaving for the parking lot.

Orono police found him inside a vehicle, along with beer bottles, a small amount of marijuana and a marijuana pipe.

Connor was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail. He was charged with assault, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of alcohol by a minor.

A few minutes after Connor was in custody, Ushuaia bouncers escorted another man outside who reportedly had pushed a bartender and threw a beer in his face.

David Weir, 25, of Orono subsequently was arrested and charged with assault and disorderly conduct.

A 20-year-old-man who was trying to get into a residence near the University of Maine campus late Monday night was arrested for disorderly conduct and attempted criminal trespassing.

A female resident of Talmar Wood, an apartment complex on Park Street, called police around 11 p.m. to report that a man had knocked on her door.

The woman told police that the man, later identified as Nicholas Dawes of Salisbury Cove, growled and barked at her when she opened the door. She also claimed that Dawes said, “I know you’re in there,” after she closed the door and alerted police.

Dawes could not tell police what he was doing at the woman’s apartment, but police said he was extremely intoxicated. He was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail.
