AUGUSTA – Maine Superior Court Justice Nancy Mills became chief justice of the Maine Superior Court on Sunday.

The chief justice of the Superior Court serves a two-year term and is responsible for scheduling and supervising the operation of Maine’s Superior Courts, which provide jury trials in civil and criminal cases in all 16 counties.

Mills, a resident of Cornville, holds bachelor’s degrees from Connecticut College and Michigan State University and received her law degree from the University of Maine. She was in private practice and served as an assistant district attorney before being appointed as a judge of the Maine District Court in 1991 and as a justice of the Maine Superior Court in 1993.
