Stockton Springs artist has show at Bangor library

BANGOR – William Landmesser of Stockton Springs is showing oil and watercolor paintings in a show titled “Come Winter: Paintings from 1980 to 2005,” through Nov. 30 at Bangor Public Library.

Born in upstate New York, Landmesser grew up immersed in the visual beauty of the Adirondacks and New England. For most of his professional life he has lived in rural Maine, where he has developed a body of work that has been exhibited and collected regionally and nationally for 25 years.

The artist begins with preliminary life studies inspired by real or imagined images.

Those who speak most strongly to the artist transcend mere reportage and have as their ultimate meaning “the grace, goodness and truth of the Creator,” Landmesser said.

Landmesser’s studio-gallery, Fern Hill Gallery, is located just off Route 1, halfway between Stockton Springs village and Bucksport. It is open to the public by chance or appointment. For information, call 567-4302.
