‘The Biggest Loser’ prompts diet book, Web club, newsletter and more

Before the show started, who would have imagined people saying they want to be “The Biggest Loser,” but it appears that some believers are eating carbs again and have vacated South Beach to join The Biggest Loser Club.

NBC’s hit show has sparked a new diet trend, complete with a book adapted from the show and a Web site for “The Biggest Loser Club.” On the site, you can enter your weight, height, age and gender, and receive a diet profile. There also are daily meal plans and recipes, message boards, and a newsletter.

In the last episode, Dr. Jeff – one of my favorites – was kicked off the show. He lost an amazing 100-plus pounds, and after seeing the reaction of his family and how much happier he is after shedding the weight, I’m counting on him to keep it off.

Now it’s up to Andrea, Matt, Suzy and Seth for Tuesday night’s finale. Despite his flaws, I’m betting on Matt to bring this one home. The finale can be seen at 8 p.m. Tuesday on NBC.

In other reality news, The New York Post is reporting that names of contestants on ABC’s next season of “Dancing With the Stars” are beginning to leak. The lineup is expected to include former football star Jerry Rice, leading 1950s movie stud Robert Wagner, and “Days of Our Lives” star Lisa Rinna.

The show is slated to premiere its second season Jan. 5.

And Martha, you just don’t fit in. NBC has decided – surprise – not to renew Martha’s version of “The Apprentice.” The decorating diva is saying that one season was the plan, but viewers know best. It just wasn’t meant to be.
