Maine’s unemployment rate fell to 5.2 percent in October, down from the September rate of 5.4 percent.
“The number of Maine residents working continued to increase, rising between September and October to a seasonally-adjusted total of 682,000,” said Laura Fortman, commissioner of the Maine Department of Labor.
During the last year, the state’s economy gained 3,300 new nonfarm jobs. The largest gains were in health care, social assistance, leisure and hospitality services, retail trade and construction. These gains offset losses in manufacturing.
