Warrant out for Bangor man in drug scheme

An arrest warrant was issued Monday for a Bangor man who reportedly accepted delivery of prescription medication that did not belong to him.

Alvin Moreno, 43, of 120 Center St. is alleged to have signed for a delivery of methylphenidate – a type of Ritalin – that was supposed to go to a man with a similar last name who lives nearby.

Because the names and addresses were so similar, the delivery driver from Miller Drug did not question Moreno when he signed for the drugs, according to a police report.

After Moreno reportedly lied to the deliverer, he then signed for the package with his own name. The man is a regular at Miller Drug, which compared the signature to other prescriptions that Moreno has signed for. They were nearly identical.

He had not been found as of late Tuesday, but an active warrant for acquiring drugs by deception has been issued for Moreno.

A Bangor teenager believed to have caused a three-car chain reaction car accident Monday was arrested for driving without a license.

Police went to the accident scene on Main Street in Bangor near the Penobscot Theatre at about 1:30 p.m. Some passengers were being treated for minor injuries while a Bangor police officer spoke to the driver of the vehicle suspected to be at fault.

The boy identified himself initially as Josh Freeman, with a date of birth of July 12, 1988. When the officer checked the name, however, nothing came up. The teen then admitted that his name, in fact, was Jeffrey McMahan, date of birth July 12, 1989.

McMahan did not have a driver’s license and admitted he had been drinking, according to police. However, the boy’s blood alcohol level was tested at 0.0 percent after the accident.

The car McMahan was driving, which did not belong to him, had about $700 in damage. The middle car in the accident had about $1,200 in damage and the third only minor damage.

The teenager was taken to Penobscot County Jail pending notification of a juvenile probation officer.
