Knights powers Maine Maritime to victory

PRESQUE ISLE – Julia Knights scored 21 points to lead the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners of Castine to a 74-61 women’s basketball victory over the University of Maine-Presque Isle Thursday.

Shelly Gott notched 17 points and 10 rebounds and Alyssa Burns put in 16 points for the winners.

Jessica Cyr’s 20 points led the Owls and Julie Wescott chipped in with 12.

At Brunswick, the third-ranked Polar Bears built a 20-point halftime lead en route to the victory, their 57th straight at Morrell Gymnasium.

Eileen Flaherty paced Bowdoin College with 17 points, while Jill Anelauskas posted 10 points and 12 rebounds. Lauren Withey and Julia Loonin added 11 points each.

Kristen Sorensen paced Colby-Sawyer with 11 points.

At Waterville, Marissa Hesketh scored 15 points to power the University of New England over Thomas.

Toby Martin and Amanda Godley led the Terriers with 13 points apiece.

The Terriers fall to 3-3 while the Nor’Easters of Biddeford improve to 3-3.

At Waterville, Matt McManus scored 21 of his 29 points in the second half to lead the University of New England of Biddeford to the win.

Eric Lopez sparked the Terriers with 24 points and James Godley had 11.

Both teams are now 3-3.
