Boy sends instant message during robbery

BANGOR – A Bangor teenager whose family was being robbed in their home Wednesday contacted a friend by computer to get help.

Three men forced their way into the Warren Street home where the teenager lived with his parents. At least one of the men was wielding a weapon, Detective Sgt. Paul Kenison of the Bangor Police Department said Thursday.

Family members were threatened during the estimated five minutes the trio were inside the home before they left with prescription drugs and electronics, Kenison said.

The youth was apparently upstairs in his bedroom and used a computer to send an instant message to a friend, asking the friend to call the police. Still, police weren’t called until about 10 minutes after the incident began, and by then the three men had left.

A state police canine searched the area, and Bangor officers scoured the area on foot and in cruisers. The three men remained at large Thursday.

All three men were Caucasian and were wearing hooded sweat shirts and jeans, Kenison said. Two of the men were described as being about 5 feet 8 inches tall while the third man was described as being about 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighing about 300 pounds.

Kenison would not identify specifically what was taken or what weapon was used in the robbery, saying the incident is still under investigation.
