NEW SHARON – A 74-year-old man died after suffering severe burns when a fire broke out in a workshop at his home, officials said Sunday.

Melvin Butterfield was flown by helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland after the fire broke out at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Stephen McCausland of the Public Safety Department said.
