DOVER-FOXCROFT – Piscataquis County economic development officials are scurrying to help a telesales firm that has expressed an interest in the region.

The owners of the firm have met with Mark Scarano, business development director for the Piscataquis County Economic Development Council, and have discussed their needs for a telesales business in the county.

The company wishes to remain anonymous until it has made a decision about its location, according to Scarano.

Next week, advertisements will be published and aired to determine the interest for the jobs that would created by the venture, Scarano said. He said the number of employees considered for potential jobs would depend upon the response to the advertisements.

Applicants should have good communication skills because they will be dealing with the public over the telephone, receiving incoming calls for the sale of advertised items, according to Scarano. He said the wages provided by the firm will be very competitive.

“This is something we really need to push to show the company that we have an available and skilled work force that will meet their needs,” Scarano said Thursday.

If interest is shown for these jobs, that would help persuade the company to settle in the county, he said.

Applications for the potential jobs will be available early next week at the Career Center in Dover-Foxcroft and at town offices in Guilford, Greenville, Dover-Foxcroft, Milo and Brownville.

Scarano hopes he can convince the firm to expand to Piscataquis County, following the lead of Creative Apparel, a manufacturer of protective outerwear for the military that recently opened a factory in Dover-Foxcroft, and the opening of a JSI Store Fixtures factory in Milo.

To highlight the council’s success stories since its formation a few years ago, council members plan to proclaim Aug. 21 as Piscataquis County Economic Development Day.

Gov. Angus King has been invited and is expected to attend the event, which will include a tour of the JSI factory and the groundbreaking of the new Creative Apparel building at the Pine Crest Business Park.

The event will serve to highlight the council’s victories in Piscataquis County, Scarano said.

“It will be a nice time to reflect where we’ve been and what we’re doing,” he said.
