PICTURES OF THE YEAR 2005

Denise Farwell

By the time this edition of Pictures of the Year is delivered to your doorsteps, I will have finished my time here at the Bangor Daily News. I want to thank everyone who has helped me find my dream job and continue to grow.

Many people at the BDN deserve my thanks, but especially the photo staff.

To Scott Haskell, for giving me the amazing opportunity to work here as an intern and then as a temporary staffer.

To Linda Coan O’Kresik, now at home with her new baby, Ava, for tirelessly supporting me from the very beginning and making us all laugh.

To Kevin, who has never been afraid to give me an honest critique and show me that some assignments are “like shooting fish in a barrel.”

To Gabor, for always being willing to look over my photos, offering words of advice at times when I really needed it and who shared with me a deep love of cheesecake.

To John, who is always up for a discussion about the many facets of this profession and who could pull any gear, lighting equipment or accessory you might need out of his arsenal.

And last, to the photo technicians Jen, Linda and Terry, for welcoming me into their backroom and making every photo of mine look its best.

I will miss the photo staff very much as I move on to other things and will never forget all that they have done to make me a better photojournalist.
