BAILEYVILLE – Heads up police work by a reserve officer led to the arrest Tuesday of a 16-year-old male juvenile for aggravated trafficking in marijuana, police said Thursday.

Police Chief Phil Harriman said the Baileyville juvenile was charged with aggravated trafficking in Schedule Z drugs because the incident took place within 1,000 feet of a school.

Around 2:45 p.m., reserve officer John McPhee noticed that a 16-year-old Princeton juvenile was in possession of what appeared to be marijuana.

“That information was passed on to duty officer Stephen Tupper and school resource officer Shawn Newell, who began an investigation,” Harriman said. “Because of their good investigation, the Baileyville juvenile was charged with aggravated trafficking.”

The Princeton juvenile later was charged with possession of marijuana, Harriman said.

Both juveniles are scheduled to be arraigned in 4th District Court in Calais on Feb. 25.
